Southern Style Green Beans

Who doesn't love southern food? We sure love it on Food News and Chews and Chef Jeremy has the perfect recipe for Southern Style Green Beans!


Ingredients

1 smoked ham hock, country ham scraps, or smoked bacon (about 6-8 ounces)
2 yellow or sweet onions, quartered
bundle of fresh thyme
bundle of fresh sage
1 tbs kosher salt
4 garlic cloves, halved
2 quarts water
2 pounds pole beans, strings removed

 

Preparation

Combine the onions, herbs, pork product, salt, and garlic in a medium pot, add the water, and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes. Add the beans and cook until tender, 25 minutes. Scoop the beans from the broth and put in a large serving bowl. Continue to cook the broth until reduced by 1/2. Pour hot broth over the beans in the serving bowl and enjoy.
