Food News and Chews TV Show Moves to KET

Lexington, KY - Chef Jeremy Ashby and Sylvia Lovely, co-hosts of Food News and Chews TV show, are taking the show on the PBS road!  January 21, 2014 marks the first airing of the popular food focused program on Kentucky Educational Television (KET).

Focusing on community building food education that entertains, Food News and Chews TV Show now calls KET home.  The PBS affiliate reaches nearly 5.5 million viewers; one of the largest audience affiliates in the nation.  In the inaugural episode, heirloom seed expert Bill Best of Berea, Kentucky teaches Chef Jeremy and Sylvia the history of heirloom beans.  Mr. Best has varieties reaching back 1,400 years.  Chef teaches Sylvia how to preserve beans through stringing and a new classic is created in the kitchen. Familiar ingredients ham and eggs pair well with some of the "Best" beans.

The journey began May 2011 on talk radio.  Executive Chef Jeremy Ashby, the classically trained and talented chef/owner of Azur Restaurant & Patio joined Sylvia Lovely, a policy driven community figure, on a food inspired weekly chat NPR style.  One part Southern charm and one part sassy spice the duo created Sunny Side Up Radio.  Theresa Stanley, Producer, joined with a heaping helping of community.  The mix included food news, from safety to trends, interviews with food rockstars such as the TLC Pitmasters, Marion Nestle and John Besh to local food do-gooders in Kentucky.  Recipes were shared to promote local, seasonal Kentucky Proud offerings.  Chef Jeremy taught folks to cook, including Sylvia, which proved instant success pleasing the palates of food sophisticates and novices alike.

Opportunity arose on Fox (WDKY) presenting the show to a prime time television viewing audience beginning December 2012.  Sunny Side Up Radio began a televised journey as Food News and Chews TV Show (FNC) with Media 7 Productions.  The weekly show criss-crossed the Bluegrass to get the scoop on food news affecting Kentuckians, interviewing everyone from farmers to legislators and cooking segments to tell the story of Kentucky agriculture products as a centerpiece of cooking.  Made possible with sponsor partners Alltech, Azur Restaurant & Patio, Azur Catering, Critchfield Meats, C-Worth Superstore and Sullivan University the show created another platform to showcase Kentucky foodways hard at work.

On a trip to Nashville to film with the prestigious James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Tour, the FNC crew discovered their unique formula worked across Kentucky and into the neighboring state of Tennessee. The "Why" of the show became a conversation to refine the mission of telling food stories in the South recognizing Appalachia's contribution to the foundation and variety.  Chef Jeremy & Sylvia mastered multi-media platforms with the message food builds community.  With a refined mission to educate and entertain Food News and Chews TV Show on KET was born.
